Frequently asked questions
Quick answers for people already using Spenrol. For step-by-step guides, visit the Help Center.
Is Spenrol connected to my bank or UPI account?
No. Spenrol never reads your bank or UPI transactions automatically, and it can't move money. Every expense enters the app one of three ways: you type it in yourself, you import it from a screenshot of a payment confirmation (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and super.money are recognized automatically, with a generic fallback for other apps), or you share the payment confirmation text directly from your UPI app. Either way, you always review the details before anything is saved.
Are amounts shown in rupees or paise?
Rupees, always. Amounts are stored internally in paise for precision, but every screen displays them formatted in rupees (e.g. ₹1,250.00).
How do I log an expense?
Three ways:
- Add manually from the home screen or the + button.
- Import a screenshot — share a payment confirmation screenshot to Spenrol (or open it from your gallery inside the app) and it pre-fills the amount, payee, and category for you to confirm.
- Share the confirmation text from your UPI app directly to Spenrol.
Nothing is saved automatically — you always see a review screen first.
Can I split an expense with others?
Yes, but Spenrol only tracks your own share. When adding an expense, turn on Split and enter how many people it's shared between — Spenrol divides the total and counts only your portion against your budget. It doesn't send requests to other people or track who owes whom.
What's the Spending Score?
A 0–100 score reflecting how disciplined your spending was this month, based on how much of your spending was tagged "impulsive" or "optional" versus "required," plus a penalty if you went over budget. It needs at least one tagged transaction in the month to calculate — untagged transactions don't count toward it. Tiers range from "Needs Attention" to "Excellent Financial Discipline."
Why don't I have a Spending Score this month yet?
You need to tag at least one confirmed transaction as required, optional, or impulsive. Untagged transactions are excluded from the score entirely, so if everything this month is untagged, there's nothing to calculate yet.
How does budget rollover work at month end?
You get two choices: Reset, which copies last month's categories and limits into the new month, or Carry forward, which adds whatever you didn't spend last month into this month's total budget, spread across your categories proportionally. Rollover never reduces any category below zero.
Can I edit or delete a category limit mid-month?
Yes, from Budget settings. Categories with existing transactions are never deleted outright, only renamed or adjusted, so your spending history stays intact.
Why did a category's "spent" amount change without me adding anything?
Category spend is calculated live from your confirmed transactions each time you open the app, not stored as a fixed number. If you edit or delete a past transaction, the category total updates automatically.
Can I get Spenrol on iPhone?
Android only for now. iOS is in progress.
How do I turn off notifications?
Settings → Notifications. There's one switch that covers budget-limit alerts, daily summaries, and month-end reset reminders together.
I stopped getting reminders even though I haven't logged anything in weeks. Why?
Spenrol nudges you after a few days of no logged expenses, but only sends that nudge at most once a week, so you won't hear about the same idle streak every day.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your budgets, transactions, and profile stay tied to your account and aren't shared with other users or used to generate comparisons against "average" spending — every number Spenrol shows you is calculated from your own data.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete Account. You'll need to type a confirmation phrase — this permanently removes your account, budgets, and transaction history and can't be undone.
